Please Understand Me II: Temperament, Character, Intelligence The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, by John M. Gottman, Ph.D. Conscious Loving: The Journey to Co-Commitment, Gay Hendricks & Kathlyn Hendricks. A good book on cultivating healthy relationships, although written from a heterosexual perspective.
The Multi-Orgasmic Man, Mantak Chia and Douglas Abrams Arava. Chia's most accessible book, although written in a somewhat annoying "Men's Health” style. The Red Thread of Passion: Spirituality and the Paradox of Sex, David Guy. An interesting book, part memoir and part inquiry into the nature of sacred sexuality. Excellent chapter on Joseph Kramer’s approach to high erotic states. Read my review here. Different Loving: An exploration of the world of sexual dominance and submission, Gloria G. Brame, William D. Brame and Jon Jacobs. A good survey of this part of human sexuality.
Loving Someone Gay, 4th Edition, by Don Clark, Ph.D. The original gay self-help and self-exploration book, and still the best. Don and I lead workshops together (see the events page); if you're going to be attending one of our programs, this book is great preparation. Ten Smart Things Gay Men can Do to Improve Their Lives, by Joe Kort. You can read my review of Joe's book here. The Soul Beneath the Skin: The Unseen Hearts and Habits of Gay Men, by David Nimmons. A reinterpretation of gay male culture that's unique, positive and life affirming. Highly recommended. Gay Soul, Mark Thompson. Interviews with a diverse group of individuals who have shaped the gay spirituality movement. Belongs on your bookshelf! Gay Spirit, Mark Thompson. A good introduction to understanding the spiritual gifts of the gay community. Gay Body, Mark Thompson. An exploration of the shadow and the psychic condition of Gay men through the telling of Mark’s own life story. Two Flutes Playing, Andrew Ramer. The Gay community's foremost cultural mythologist makes his case for our role in human civilization. GAY SPIRITUALITY: The Role of Gay Identity in the Transformation of Human Consciousness, by Toby Johnson. A great source for exploring the unique spiritual place in which the gay community lives, from the editor of White Crane Journal. Suicide Tuesday: gay men and the crystal meth scare, by Duncan Osborne. An interesting review of the role of meth and sexuality in gay North American culture. Tweakers: How crystal meth is ravaging gay America, by Frank Sanello. A different perspective from Sanello's book, emphasizing personal stories of struggle with crystal meth.
